The members of SEECHAC learned with great sadness of the passing of Mr Gérard FUSSMAN (1940-2022), Professor at the Collège de France, which occurred on May 14, 2022.

Gérard Fussman began his career as a professor of Sanskrit at the University of Strasbourg. From 1984 until 2011 he was professor of the chair of “the history of the Indian world” at the College de France. He began his research in Afghanistan with a publication on the languages ​​of the Dardies and the Kafirs, Linguistic Atlas of the Dardic and Kafir dialects, which was his doctoral thesis. As an archaeologist he published several volumes on the Buddhist monuments of Termez and then of Kabul. With a team of French and Indian researchers, he spent several years studying the city of Chanderi, located in Madhya Pradesh. G. Fussman contributed to the creation of the SEECHAC and was its president between 2007 and 2012. He organized the first international colloquium of the SEECHAC which took place at the Collège de France in 2009. In collaboration with the Italian colleagues he participated in the organization of the Colloquium in Rome in 2012.
