Tuesday September 26 2023, at 6 PM, Maison de l’Asie, 22 avenue du président Wilson. 75016 PARIS.
Conference by Lilla Russell-Smith, Conservatrice du département d’Art d’Asie Centrale, Museum für Asiatische Kunst, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin – Preußischer Kulturbesitz.
In the past ten years the planning and installation of the new permanent exhibition of the Museum für Asiatische Kunst in the Humboldt Forum has taken centre stage: the majority of the wall paintings, clay sculptures and wooden objects are now exhibited in the very large rooms that opened in September 2021 and September 2022. Now the rotation of paper and textile objects throws up questions in conservation and research that could not be resolved in a satisfactory way before. One of the most interesting fragmented paper scrolls, known as the “astrological scroll” (III 520) due to the depiction of the Western zodiac, is being prepared for the exhibition and will be one focus of the lecture.
